Posted by seth On March - 30 - 2009

Vans SK8, Pool Service, iphone, review Vans is known for their line of clothing and shoes dedicated to Xtreme sports fans, and now they will also be known for great games on the Iphone and Ipodtouch. Vans SK8: Pool Service may at first glance look like a promotional tool to advertise the company, and it is, but it also is so much more. It is the best skateboard game on the app store. With great graphics, one of the best soundtracks in an Iphone game (featuring songs from known artists) and well calibrated controls, this is a must have app.

The game let’s you get in the Vans shoes of Bucky Lasek or Omar Hassan and try to get that perfect score from a big variety of tricks. You get to unlock different achievements by performing different tricks and also a collection of skating boards and wheels which can be used ingame.

Vans SK8: Pool Service offers two game modes. The first one is career mode in which there are 10 different events and a timed run and the second is a free ride mode. The downside is that there is only one skate location, a dried up pool, but the environment and graphics are so beautiful rendered that it will take a lot of time to get bored of it.

Game controls include the use of the accelometer to control the direction of your character and do different tricks that can become even more complex when you swipe or tap the screen.

Features:
-2 game modes: career with 10 different events; and free ride
-2 different skateboard super stars that you can play with
-great soundtrack
-unlockable achievements and skateboards

Pros:
-Great graphics
-Very intuitive controls that use the accelometer and the iphone multi touch screen
- A huge variety of tricks to be mastered
-Great value for its price

Cons:
-Only one skating location
-Loading screens take a little bit of time

Price:
Vans SK8: Pool Service is $4.99 on the App Store.

Hotness!!!! The iPhone needs more THIS. Forget fake buttons. I like the way that gestures are getting to be best and most accepted way of controlling games on the iPhone.
