The classic puzzle game bar has just been raised ! With the release of Azkend for iPhone / iPod Touch the developers from MythPeople managed to revitalize the puzzle game genre. Once you start playing you are hooked , the the enticing graphics , the spectacular visual effects and the touch control make you loose track of time.
The game mechanics are similar to other match-3 game of this type : “Treasures of Montezuma” , “Aurora Feint” ,”Bejeweled” etc. but the designers managed to do much more with this idea , spicing things up by adding more features , bonuses and a more fluent and intuitive control system.
How to play :
The game board is divided in many hexagons tiles each with different symbols , you have to touch and slide to string together three or more symbols that are alike. Every time you succeed in doing this the hexagons turn blue.When the entire board is blue, a broken piece of a talisman appears at the top of the game board. Before time runs out, you have to clear all the tiles below the piece to drop it off of the bottom of the board. If run out of time the board will crumble and you will have to try again.
There’s also a lightning meter to fill as you progress. If your match includes at least one tile that has not yet been converted to blue, your lightning meter fills. When it gets to the top, lightning randomly strikes useful tiles on the board, turning them blue for you. Watch out though because if the match you create doesn’t contain at least a tile that has not yet been turned blue the lightning meeter will reset.
In addition to the regular hexagon tiles that you string along you will encounter special ones that you will need to deal with as soon as possible:
Steel Tile - break an item on it to turn it into a basic tile
Iced Tile - you have to break a string of items next to it to defrost it
Tar Tile - the tile is covered with spreading tar , you have to break a string next to it in order to remove it
Wildcard - it can be used to string together any two types of tiles
Azkend also has a story that you follow, this is emphasized by a mini game that you play every six levels. You will be presented with a beautiful picture that represents a vision from the story , a small part of that picture will be shown in the left corner of the screen. You will have to tap on the big picture where you think the small one matches. Each successful match will add one second to your timer , which is not very noticeable at the early levels but crucial towards the end.
