Alawar is shaping up to be one of the best developers for Iphone and IPod Touch games. The guys that brought you wonderfully addictive games like Tank-O-Box and The Treasures of Montezuma now release a new marvel in Magic Ball 2.
Alawar MO has always been to port successful games like tank wars and link 3 gems type of games, and give them a unique twist. This is the case of Magic ball 2 too; it is a classic arkanoid game but with great graphics and original features. The difference between this and other arkanoid games from the appstore is that this one has 3 dimensional levels. This means that the bricks form different structures, like buildings or forts that are destroyed brick by brick. As you obliterate these scenes, power-ups rain down from above, allowing you to launch missiles, rack up points, put multiple balls into play and more.
The controls are fully based on the accelometer, which is a good thing in some cases and bad in others. The good part is that they used the tilt option of the Iphone, for using different powerups in original ways. Like for example, when you get the machine gun power-up, to shoot bullets you have to tilt you phone up and down. This may sound weird at first, but give it a try, it is a very interesting feature that will amuse you. The bad part of using the accelometer for controls is that it is hard to control the paddle which you use to hit the ball. It seems to move to slow on the screen, maybe if the developers would offer an option to increase the Iphone’s accelometer sensitivity; this would not be an issue.

Magic Ball 2 like all Alwar’s games are must have games, because they take old, but popular concepts and give them an updated look and feel to create great results.

Gamedroid recommends: If you are an Arkanoid fan, you should also check out Gameloft’s Block Breaker 2 Deluxe, which is a superb example for this types of games with great graphics and great controls.
