Back in the day , Snake was the epiphany of mobile gaming , if you had a Nokia 3310 with Snake you pretty much had it all. The game was incredibly addictive and was one of the first mobile games that really showed everyone that the mobile device was a great gaming platform. Since the launch of the App Store some have tried to bring something new to the Snake game genre , a noticeable one was Robo Snake 3D an interesting attempt with nice 3D graphics but with few maps and a game play that quickly became repetitive. Snake Galaxy launched today by Dig Dog brings the classic snake game back ! With frequent new planet updates this game has the potential of being one of those iconic iPhone games !

Snake Galaxy impressed me from the very beginning, i found myself playing through the menu amazed by its nice flow, just to see all the interesting animations. The amazement continued as i started playing. Each level is presented under the form of a planet “Snake Galaxy” is comprised of 5 planets each with it’s specific theme and obstacles. You play on a 3D sphere that has 5 special themes plus a training one that has no obstacles. You have the Village theme, the Paper one ,the Jeans theme , the Graphic theme and a final Concrete one.

The goal of the game is similar to the classic snake one , you have to collect as many gems as possible, making sure not to run into obstacles (including yourself).
To unlock a new planet you have to surpass the hight scores set by the producers, fairly easy at the beginning .. frustratingly hard towards the end. To help you reach a higher score there is a multiplier , the more gems you consecutively eat the more points you get.

Controls are intuitive and make the game easy to master , the snake follows the directions of your swipes making it feel very responsive, be careful though because this snake is not capable of sharp turns , so plan your moves accordingly.

The game has two game modes: a “Quick Play” one that throws you right in the game where you left off and a “Missions” one which lets you pick which ever level you desire ( after it has been unlocked ).

Snake Galaxy also has some down sides. The first would be that the frame rate sometimes drops for a short period, not continuously but enough to be noticeable. Also the game has only six levels, it does take some time to complete because as you progress the levels get harder but more levels would make it perfect.
A final downside would be that the levels don’t really tell you what score you need to reach to unlock the next planet. You just have to give it your best and hope you reached the unlock score.

All in all Snake Galaxy is a definite MUST HAVE game , its brilliant graphics , up beat music and fun game play making it one of the best iPhone games out there.
